Collision‐induced absorption at temperatures of thousands of kelvin, from first principles, for astrophysical applications
New ab initio surfaces of the potential energies and the induced electric dipole moments of H2–H2 and H2–He collisional complexes are obtained with H2 bond distances from 0.942 to 2.801 bohr. These data permit the calculation of collision-induced absorption (CIA) spectra of dense hydrogen-helium gas mixtures at temperatures up to thousands of kelvin, i.e., under conditions where strong rotovibr...
متن کاملInduced infrared absorption of molecular hydrogen in solid C
We report on the observation of induced infrared absorption in a molecular species trapped within a C60 lattice. Infrared spectra for interstitial H2 show distinct rotational and translational side-bands superimposed on the H2’s highly redshifted (54 cm ) fundamental vibrational mode. Data indicate that the hydrogen is rotating almost completely freely while at the same time undergoing localize...
متن کاملAntiproton-Hydrogen annihilation at sub-kelvin temperatures
The unique features of the LEAR (low-energy antiproton ring) facility at CERN made recently possible the synthesis of few antihydrogen atoms [1]. This effort would be pursued with the antiproton deccelerator (AD) project [2] and would make possible the storage of sensible amounts of antihydrogen. This project reinforces the already active interest to investigate several theoretical and experime...
متن کاملCollision induced absorption in CO2 at 0.091 cm-1
2014 Collision induced microwave absorption has been studied at 0.091 cm-1 and 293 K up to 60 amagat density. Expressing the dielectric loss 03B5" in the form 03B5" = A03BD03C12(1 Bp), where 03BD is the frequency in cm-1 and p is the density, we find A = 0.22 10-7 (cm.amagat-2) and B = 0.008 2 (amagat-1). As a result the molecular quadrupole moment of CO2 is calculated to be 5.6 10-26 (esu). J....
